Saving the Kakapo from extinction
The kakapo is the largest of the parrots, flightless, nocturnal and very charming. The New Zealand species suffered catastrophic declines, numbering only 51 individuals in 1995. Prof David Houston discusses research to bring this bird back from the brink of extinction. The kakapo is also famous for its salacious behaviour in Stephen Fry’s ‘Last Chance to See’. See below for the now infamous clip.
